PHILIPPINES—Hazy photos and typos printed on newly delivered national ID cards have gone viral on social media, prompting the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to provide new ID cards for those who want theirs corrected before yearend…for a fee.
The National Statistician Dennis Mapa told reporters on Friday (June 10) that the PSA has already contacted ID holders who have posted about printing errors on their Philippine IDs (PhilIDs).
According to Mapa, the PSA has received 100 complaints about ID photos so far – “a very, very small number.”
PSA complaints pale in comparison to the millions of ID cards delivered by the state-run Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost).
The government had prioritized the poorest households during PhilSys registration two years ago, so that they could also be encouraged to open an account with the state-run Land Bank of the Philippines and join the growing banked population moving swiftly to digital space amid the prolonged pandemic.
But,PhilID cards are being printed in cooperation with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), but some registrants are already complaining on social media about their unflattering photos.
Misspelled names and missing second names were the most common errors spotted by ID holders, according to Mapa, who admits that some of these errors were made by the PSA’s own encoders. Mapa said that some errors had also been missed by registrants themselves during encoding.
Later on, Mapa said, those who get married and want to change their IDs to reflect their new family status and new names may have their cards corrected or be provided with new ones.
Map revealed that the PSA will propose a P135 replacement fee for ID cards.This process will include meetings with stakeholders, according to him.
The PSA will, however, not be able to replace cards anytime soon, since it continues to place a high priority on registering and delivering identification documents to those who lack them.
The PSA aims to register 67 million Filipinos in PhilSys this year and deliver the same number of PhilIDs as soon as possible, Mapa said. Every day, the BSP prints 80,000-90,000 cards.

Step 2. To present and/or submit the requirements for evaluation to the TSD/DEC Officer.
Step 3. Register on the Client’s Attendance Sheet and complete the Conductor Reorientation Course (CRC) Form once the violation records have been verified.
Step 4. Participate in the CRC facilitated by the TSD/DEC proctor.
Step 5. The TSD/DEC proctor will facilitate the examination after you have completed the course.
If passed: You will receive a CRC Certificate of Completion and a picture.
